Earthquake Sprinkler Leakage—E.Q.S.L.

WaterDrip.jpgEarthquake insurance is necessary because earthquakes in California are a fact of life. Most commercial property policies exclude coverage for Earthquake damage and the damage caused by Earthquake Sprinkler Leakage. Both coverage’s should be considered when assessing exposure to asset protection and potential loss of earnings.

While Earthquake coverage is almost always purchased on a separate coverage form, E.Q.S.L. coverage can sometimes be secured on a commercial property form. During small to moderate earthquakes, pipes have been known to break and/or leak causing a great deal of water damage. FEMA and the National Fire Sprinkler Association have published excellent resources regarding the impact of earthquakes on commercial structures.
